A panel of high school and middle school teachers was convened during summer 2000 with the purpose of developing the ROBIE educational materials.  The intent was to integrate space science, the Science Benchmarks, ongoing research experiments with emphasis on using the Internet, while filling the conceptual gaps in existing curricula. This was made possible with funding from Louisiana Technology Innovations Fund  (LTIF), Louisiana Systemic Initiative Program (LaSIP),  National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Louisiana State University (LSU).
