Member Stargazing Schedule

The Baton Rouge Astronomical Society will hold monthly stargazing sessions for club members at our dark observing site located near Maringouin, LA. Directions are available in the date listing on the BRAS Members Only Calendar of the Forum. E-mail fred@eatel.net to get access to that Calendar if you do not have it already (must be a BRAS member). You can also look in the latest issue of the club newsletter. These Stargazing Sessions are for Members of BRAS Only

You can also get up to the minute stargaze information by calling the Stargaze Line at (641) 715-3900 Extension: 26184. Please arrive around sunset to allow time for setup. If you must arrive after dark, please be considerate of others trying to observe and please minimize lighting on the site. Should the primary observation date be canceled due to weather, the cloud date shown on the schedule will be held, weather permitting. Observing will be held on the cloud date only if the primary observation date was canceled.

Lighting Rules in Affect After Dark

1) Must use red lighting only, no white lights.

2) Use parking lights only when entering the site after dark to help others keep their eyes dark adapted or to not ruin photographs being taken by other members.

Other Rules When Using The Observing Site

Please pick up after yourself and leave the site as you found it. Remember, we are guest at this site and are given the privilege to use it.
