2008 Stargazer's Camp

Your child can learn about the stars, the planets, the Moon and the Sun at HRPO's Stargazers Camp. Children will be building sundials, launching rockets, using telescopes, viewing the Sun—and experiencing and learning much more in this exciting day camp.

Stargazers Camp is not an average day camp. Lots of children attend camp to spend their summer swimming, running and playing games. That, of course, is wonderful—but some children like to learn special subjects and have unique challenges. That's what Stargazers Camp is all about. We might not create future athletes, but we just might create future astronomers, engineers and astronauts! For one week, your child is immersed in the fascinating world of astronomy and space science. They have the opportunity to learn about comets, asteroids and craters. They will also enjoy hands-on activities like building and launching rockets, creating Galilean telescopes, and going on a fascinating field trip.

And let's not forget the professional research telescopes at HRPO. Using them is one of the best ways for your child to learn about sunspots. It's a good thing to read about the Universe in a book, but it's a whole new adventure to see it firsthand through a telescope. Your child will have so much fun they won't even realize they are learning at the same time!

Below are some representative activities for each age group. The lists are not necessarily comprehensive.
