M66 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Leo. This color image was taken during the evening of April 8th, 2000, and is a combination of separate exposures taken with the Harris B, V and R filters. Each filter "exposure" was constructed from thirty 20 second exposure frames or the equivalent of 10 minutes per filter. 20KB.
This color image of M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy, was taken the evening of April 29, 2000 by Greg Guzik and Mark Solvak using the Apogee AP7b CCD camera. The color representation was obtained by combining images taken with the Harris R (for red), Harris V (for green) and Harris B (for blue) filters. Each filter exposure was also constructed from 20 individual frames of 30 second exposure each. Thus, the effective exposure was 10 minutes for each filter. All frames were dark subtracted and flat fielded before being combined. 166KB.
